Spring is peeking through at River Hook!

If you take photos of your walks through the preserve and would like to share them, send them to friendsofriverhook@gmail.com. We may post them on the FRH Instagram! Thank you to Anissa New-Walker for this daffodil photo.

Our 4th Annual Arbor Day Event - April 27, 11:00-1:00

On April 27 we will be celebrating our 4th Annual Arbor Day event at River Hook. We are excited to share some of the accomplishments of the past year and to honor the members of our Friends of River Hook Founder’s Circle. The Haring House and the stone carriage house will be open, including some art by local artists, poetry in the meadow by local poets, and the reinstallation of the “Still Here: Women of the Ramapough Lenape Nation” banners, made possible, in part, with support from the Austen-Stokes Ancient Americas Foundation. We are also going to remember Jannene Cason by planting a dogwood tree in her honor and expect a visit from the Summit School goats. It is sure to be a fun event.

The projects continue…

Work on the new path through River Hook is expected to be completed in April. We are pleased to see the new parking lot at the North Midland entrance is being used frequently and the feedback from the community has been positive. This work has been supported by grants to the village of Upper Nyack.

The natural play area is expected to have a play structure and shade sails installed in the next few weeks. Boulders will also be placed beside the stream and plantings added.

The main floor of the stone carriage house was cleared out with the support of River Hook volunteers on a warm day this winter. Work to clean the space and to slowly move the remnants of old furniture and house debris is continuing as is some demolition on the second floor which will help us to better understand the extent of repairs needed.

These projects are made possible through volunteer effort, grants and your donations. If you wish to contribute to these and future projects, please consider making a gift through our donation page.

River Hook has merch!

We are excited to announce that we now have River Hook hats and t-shirts. When you come to events at River Hook you will have the opportunity to purchase them while also supporting the projects at River Hook.
