River Hook: the Hester Haring Cason Preserve
River Hook: the Hester Haring Cason Preserve is a vital, self-sustaining and treasured place for retreat, repose and reinvention where the arts, environment, education and innovation thrive. Where the cultural value and historical significance of Upper Nyack are honored, where forward-facing ideas flourish and where our community unites.
Friends of River Hook was formed in March 2020 to support the transformation of the 12-acre River Hook preserve in Upper Nyack after two years of engagement with residents and friends of the Village of Upper Nyack. During several community meetings and individual conversations, ideas for potential short- and long-term uses emerged and an overarching vision for River Hook was established.
In addition to organizing ongoing work such as site clean-ups, meadow restoration, and the development of a community garden, we are currently working with Public Record Design to outline a larger design vision that will guide both the reinvention of the site and the activities and programming that will sustain it.
